The UK Gambling Commission fined online betting operator Betway £408,915 for marketing on the kids' section of the West Ham United Football Club website. According to information obtained by the commission, between 14 April 2020 and 6 November 2021, a webpage providing the chance to print a teddy bear for kids to colour displayed the operator's betting logo with a link to its website.
How Did Betway Break UKGC Rules?
Investigations also surfaced a logo that appeared between 24 October 2021 and 15 November 2021 on the "Young Hammers at Home" portal with a link to the operator's website. Both advertisements violated Commission regulations that require socially responsible betting advertising.
Leanne Oxley, Gambling Commission Director of Enforcement, stated: “Protecting children from gambling harm is at the heart of what we do. Although there is no suggestion that the operator was deliberately targeting children or that children had been allowed to gamble, we take the breach of any rules aimed at protecting children extremely seriously.”

Betway has been around the corner for more than 10 years, but they had to change their strategy in order to alter their image. After their first ups and downs, nowadays, they are considered a solid group and bookie. They turned their attention exclusively towards regulated markets, enhanced their product, and are members of important organisations like IBAS and ESSA, proving that security and transparency come first. The odds and total sports offering could be easily compared to popular bookies. I feel satisfied with the mobile app and website speed and response and with the fact that the CS is war-ready 24/7. Although I want to see them improving their in-play odds, adding Asian lines and expanding to even more European countries, they surely are a book worth your time.
